A properly sized crate is essential for your dog's comfort and security. The crate should be large enough for your dog to stand up, turn around, and lie down comfortably, but not so large that they can use one end as a bathroom. This is especially important for crate training puppies.
Our calculator adds 15cm (6 inches) to your dog's body length for the crate length, and uses shoulder height × 1.5 for the crate width, with shoulder height + 10cm for the height. These margins ensure comfortable movement while maintaining the cozy, den-like feeling that makes crates effective. For dogs between sizes, always choose the larger option.

How do I measure my dog for a crate?
Measure shoulder height from the ground to the top of the shoulders. Measure body length from the tip of the nose to the base of the tail (not including the tail). Your dog should be standing when measured.
What crate size do I need for a puppy?
For puppies, buy a crate sized for their expected adult weight and use a divider panel to reduce the space. As they grow, move the divider to give them more room. This prevents accidents and makes crate training easier.
What are standard crate sizes?
Small (S): up to 46cm/18in for dogs under 11kg. Medium (M): 46-61cm/18-24in for 11-25kg. Large (L): 61-76cm/24-30in for 25-40kg. XL: 76-91cm/30-36in for 40-55kg. XXL: 91cm+/36in+ for dogs over 55kg.
